🌄 County Explorer Coasteering Weekend – July 2025

📅 Dates: Friday 18th July to Sunday 20th July
📍 Location: Torbay District Scout Campsite
💰 Cost: £130 – payable on sign-up
🚐 Travel: Minibus travel to be confirmed during a participant/ parent Zoom to be held on 6th July 2025 (dependant on location of participants).

🥾 What’s It All About?

Join us for an exciting weekend away coasteering in Dartmoor! This is a brilliant opportunity to challenge yourself, explore somewhere new, and have fun with Explorers from across the County.

On Saturday, Explorers will take part in a coasteering activity, the ultimate adventure sport. It’s exploring a route around the coastline and making the most of the features we find. It is the best way to experience the amazing Devon and Cornish coastline.

On Sunday, the group will visit Splashdown Waterpark at Quaywest. With twisting tyre rides, slippery waterslides, it is an essential addition to the trip.

🏠 Where Are We Staying?

We’ll be based at Torbay District Scout Campsite. All meals and activity equipment will be provided. All Explorer Scouts will be required to provide their own tent (or make arrangements to share with a friend).

What’s Included?

🧭 Who Can Attend?

This weekend is open to Explorer Scouts across the County. Whether you’re brand new to Explorers or already love the outdoors, this weekend will be an unforgettable mix of challenge and fun. All Explorers must be able to swim a minimum of 50m, in clothing an equipment appropriate to the activity (buoyancy aid or life jacket) and be able to keep afloat for five minutes.

💳 How to Sign Up

Places are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment!
Cost: £130 per person, payable on sign-up.
A small number of subsidised places may be available – speak to your Explorer Leader if cost is a barrier.

If you have any questions, please speak to your Explorer Scout Leader or contact the County Team (lauren.wheeldon@scoutshw.org.uk OR rob.williams@scoutshw.org.uk).

Hi All,

Please remember Groups should all now be providing a marshal from each section to stand by the cones to slow cars coming in to Rhydd.

This is a safety measure to keep everyone safe and stated in the risk assessment.

The risk assessment can be found here under car parks - Risk Assessments – Rhydd Covert Scout Campsite

Risk Assessments – Rhydd Covert Scout Campsite

Risk Assessments Below are the Activity Risk Assessments for use on Rhydd Covert with our equipment. If you need any further information please email us on bookings@rhyddcovert.org.uk Air Pistol Shooting - Air Rifle Shooting - All Terrain Boards - Age - 10.5 upwards to use

www.rhyddcovert.org.uk

It does not have to be a leader, you can use a parent, but please ensure the adult stood there has a hi vis on.

We will be carrying spot checks out to ensure everyone is supplying a marshal on their section nights.

On some evenings there could be up to 6/8 marshals stood there, the more the better, do not leave it up to other groups to supply the marshal for you.

For all leaders cars that drive down to the lower site please remember the speed limit is 5mph on site.

Thank you for your support.

Yours in Scouting

Kathy
